Parenting Classes

Embrace TFC offers parenting classes designed for parents who want to help their children cope with the difficulties associated with separation, divorce, and family conflict. "In the Children's Best Interest" is a four-hour class that covers parenting responsibilities, financial responsibilities, and community resources available for further parenting education and support.

Class Instruction

Using a variety of teaching methods, a trained instructor will review practical applications to help parents minimize the grief, anxiety, and anger children can experience when parents separate.  If you know the mistakes to avoid and consistently choose the right course of action, you can spare your child and yourself from unnecessary suffering.

Topics covered include:

  • What is in the best interest of the child

  • Common myths about the impact of separation/divorce on children

  • The reality of separation/divorce and its impact on children

  • Separation/divorce from the perspective of both adults and children

  • Patterns and trends in parent personalities

  • Problem solving tips

  • Pursuit of child custody and parent responsibility

  • How to navigate the court system with child custody issues, divorce proceedings, dealing with attorneys, and the cost of litigation

Parent coaching to help family relationships
Parent Coaching

After conducting an inclusive comprehensive parenting assessment, our coaches provide one-on-one training and mentoring in areas of deficit. Through modeling and feedback, we reinforce skills and focus on those areas of parenting most relevant to the child’s issues.  We develop a comprehensive Individualized Service Plan (ISP) to target areas of specific need and we teach strategies based on evidence-based best practice methods.

Our coaches choose from two curriculums, either Becoming A Love & Logic Parent Program® or Active Parenting of Teens®, to provide an overall framework for the service. Each curriculum offers a foundation for positive parenting and helps to:

  • Preserve and enhance the youth’s self-concept

  • Teach youth how to own and solve the problems they create

  • Share the control and decision-making

  • Combine consequences with high levels of empathy and warmth

  • Build the adult-youth relationship

A key component of the program involves giving parents a firm rationale for each of the above principles, as well as practical tools for following them. Caregivers can be trained in conflict resolution, de-escalation strategies, and healthy boundary/limit-setting skills.  The intensity and duration of parenting skills training is determined on an individual basis depending on the needs of the family.
